Recreation and Attractions

Stanardsville has beautiful country roads surrounded by mountains, lakes and rivers. While visiting, enjoy a walking tour of Stanardsville, the Historical Society Museum, Green Hills Club with golf, tennis, and swimming, Middle, South and Rapidan Rivers, hiking trails to and from Shenandoah National Park, numerous antique and collectibles shops, Greene County Courthouse and other historic buildings, Thomas Jefferson Regional Library and Blue Ridge Pottery.

Only 5 to 10 minutes away in Ruckersville you can enjoy Greene House Shops, Highlands Golf Range, Yoders Country Market, lots of antique and collectables shops and numerous other stores. 15 minutes away to Madison you can visit the Handcraft House, Quilt shop (make your own!) and more antique shops.

Greene County Historical Society-Visit our Museum, filled with 8,000 years of Greene County history, located in the Old Jail next to the Greene County Court house in downtown Stanardsville. Open Fridays and Saturdays, 10 till 3, and by appointment or happenstance.


Greene Hills Club- An affordable, private family club featuring a scenic 18 hole, par 71, 6400-yard, "Buddy" Loving-designed layout that is challenging yet playable for all age and skill levels. The club also includes a full-size pool, two tennis courts, and 19th Hole Restaurant.

Noon Whistle Pottery-Working clay studio and art gallery selling over 60 artists work. Most days customers will find Holly Horan, resident potter, throwing pots at the wheel. Her husband, John Pluta, the resident sculptor, is usually sculpting figures out of clay or constructing birdhouses at their Ruckersville shop in an 1800’s barn behind Red Fox Antiques.
